For 40 years, Teresa King has been a valued member of the Grand Rapids State Bank team. As Operations Support Manager, Teresa works behind the scenes to help keep the bank running smoothly. Her responsibilities include online banking processing, statement processing and making sure the bank is in balance each day.
Teresa’s career began with an interest in accounting. She attended Itasca Community College for accounting before working at a new restaurant in town. She later joined another local financial institution, where she started as a teller and moved into new accounts and administrative duties. After hearing great things about Grand Rapids State Bank, Teresa eventually made the move to GRSB, where she has spent the past four decades.
When asked what she has enjoyed most about her time at GRSB, Teresa quickly points to the people.
“You get to know so many amazing people here at work, and you get to be good friends,” she says. “It’s a good community of people surrounding you.”
She also appreciates the opportunities GRSB provides to learn, grow and develop throughout a career.
Teresa’s role comes with its challenges, especially as banking technology continues to change. One of her biggest priorities is finding the right balance between keeping customers safe and making sure new security measures aren’t too burdensome. As technology evolves, so do the threats that come with it, making it important for Teresa and her team to continually adapt.
Outside of work, Teresa is a self-described DIYer. She enjoys woodworking and has created everything from blanket ladders to bean bag boards. She also enjoys making blankets, especially projects she can share with family and friends.
Teresa grew up in Mounds View, Minnesota. When she was 12 years old, her dad decided to move the family north, bringing them to the Grand Rapids area.
Family continues to be an important part of Teresa’s life. She is a proud grandmother to two grandsons and has been fortunate to help her son-in-law raise them following the passing of her daughter. Teresa says the experience has shown her just how true the saying “it takes a village” really is.
Teresa and her partner of 21 years, Steve, have seven grandchildren between them. They also share their home with Josie, their beloved dog.
After 40 years at Grand Rapids State Bank, Teresa’s dedication to her work, her coworkers and the community is something worth celebrating. We are grateful for the experience, relationships and commitment she has brought to GRSB throughout the years.
