Heather Swanson is an Operations Assistant at Grand Rapids State Bank, where she supports a variety of functions across the bank. She works closely with Shelly Steere on projects, assists with accounts payable, gathers audit information, and contributes to compliance efforts. Heather is also involved on the teller side, helping mentor staff and support daily operations. With 38 years of experience in the banking industry, she brings a strong knowledge base and a willingness to step in wherever needed. She enjoys the variety her role offers and the opportunity to take on new challenges.
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Swanson moved frequently growing up before her family settled in Las Vegas. It was there, as a senior in high school in 1988, that she was introduced to banking through a program that allowed her to begin working on the teller line. That early experience sparked her interest in the industry and set the foundation for her career.
Heather moved to Minnesota in 1999, where she continued building her career in banking. Over the years, she took on new responsibilities, including leadership on the teller line, and developed a strong understanding of both the day-to-day work and the “why” behind it. In 2012, she joined Grand Rapids State Bank, where she has continued to grow and expand her role.
Since joining the bank, Heather has especially valued the people she works with. She appreciates the strong relationships within the team and the supportive environment that makes work enjoyable. Being part of a group that feels more like close friends, along with opportunities to volunteer and stay connected to the community, are some of the things she enjoys most.
Outside of work, Swanson enjoys traveling and is always up for a spontaneous weekend trip. She also enjoys getting out for a drive in her convertible, spending time with friends, and relaxing at home watching her favorite shows. She and her husband, Dan, have been married for 25 years and have three children together, who remain a central part of her life.
In a role that is always evolving, Heather embraces the challenge of staying ahead. She values protecting customers and keeping up with changes in the industry. It’s about being part of a team that supports one another while also making a difference in the communities they serve.
